Baidu’s Jidu Auto to start mass production of its first robot EVs in 2023

Baidu a Chinese multinational technology company specialising in artificial intelligence and internet related services has announced that it will start mass production of its first robot electric vehicles in 2023. Read further to know more about Baidu’s Jidu Auto.

Baidu Chief Executive Robin Li said that Jidu Auto would start mass production of its first “robot” electric vehicles in 2023. Jidu an electric vehicle venture between China’s tech giant Baidu and Chinese automaker Geely, would make EVs that are of the autonomous Level-four, which needs no human intervention, Li said at Baidu’s annual developers’ conference.

Autonomous technology

Earlier in April a joint venture between South Korean automaker Hyundai and Irish auto technology company Aptiv Motional Inc has selected Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 for its upcoming autonomous robotaxi service. The IONIQ 5 will not require a driver to drive it, it is driverless technology.

The customers can book the Motional robotaxi with the help of a Lyft app from the 2023 start. This will be the first experience for many people with driverless technology. The Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 from Motional will have Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities.

Charging robot

Last year the Volkswagen automobile maker had also unveiled its prototype for its new charging robot. The company recently showcased its vision for a charging robot that will navigate the parking garage. This robot will move on its own to find electric vehicles and charge them.

Autonomous car for Indian road

While we are talking about autonomous and robot technology, in 2019 the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and IT major Wipro Ltd have joined their hands to make a driverless, autonomous car for Indian road conditions which is said to be rollout in March 2020. But we still don’t have any update about it.

There are 9 startups in India working on self-driving technology such as Flux Auto, Fisheybox, Hi-Tech Robotic Systemz, ATI Motors, Netradyne, Swaayatt Robots, Auro Robotics, Omnipresent Robot, SeDriCa 1.0.
