Sensata introduces CAN bus-enabled GXC and MXC Smart-Tactor contactors

Sensor, controller and software firm Sensata has introduced its CAN bus communication-enabled GXC and MXC Smart-Tactor contactors. The contactors are part of the GX and MX product lines, and are available for the military, battery system, energy storage, commercial vehicle and industrial markets.

Compared to contactors without CAN bus communication, Sensata says its GXC and MXC don’t need as many sensors, or a separate data logger, and can connect to all other CAN nodes in the system. The GXC and MXC’s CAN bus functionality can supply current, terminal voltage, control voltage, temperature, state and cycle count data for identifying and resolving problems.

GXC and MXC users can “program overcurrent trip points with timer delays for each trip point,” and the baud rate can be set to 250K or 500K.

The GXC and MXC are designed to work in rough conditions. Each has a ceramic seal rated to 175 degrees Celsius, and both meet the UL 1604, Class III standard for use in hazardous conditions, as well as IP 67 for 30 minutes of water immersion, IP 69K for pressure washing, SAE J1171 for external ignition protection, and ISO 8846 for protection against ignition around flammable gases.
